I know you aren't going to believe this, but Evelyn is faking it. She isn't wood. She is actually made of particle board and veneer. I know she looks it with all her wood grain and etching but check her out before her make-over.

Scary, I know The worst part is I thought she was wood too and I even paid for her in this condition. Oh boy. I was so excited that day I saw her sitting at the salvation army in her state of disrepair. She looked so worn out and in need of sprucing up. NoFace was out of town so I paid for her and said I would be back later to bring her home. I pleaded with a friend to help me pick her up and we sped back to the Salvation Army.
That's when I realized I had been duped. I literally almost started crying, but what could I do? We brought her home and I worked a little magic with my bristles and turned this old sack of bones into this stunning little lady!

Isn't she gorgeous??? I used FolkArt chalk paint in Castle and Sheepskin just like I used on Chip and Alice. Those colors are so versatile. I then waxed her with folkArt antiquing wax. This did wonders. It gave Evelyn back her character. That is the really neat thing about using Antiquing wax with chalk paint. It settles in the brush strokes and gives it the look of wood grain. And yes, it was a pain in the tush to paint all those cubbies!!

Next issue to tackle, handles. Evelyn was missing several and I had to order new ones from Amazon. I sprayed painted her existing knobs and the new handles in a teal spray paint. I only did one light coat so I could still see the bronze. I love the result!

Now you know Evelyn's secret. I wouldn't normally paint particle board but once you've already paid too much and you have a really ugly desk, what's left to do? Have you ever been duped??
